CASE NARRATIVE

Issue and Opponent: As part of the movement begun by Greta Thurnsburg’s Fridays for Future, the Extinction Rebellion organization implemented its Global Day of Action to capitalize on the momentum around climate action.
Dilemma Action: On October 7, 2019, 6 protestors, including a 15-year-old boy glued themselves to a glass door of the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment building. After being aware that an alternative entrance to the bank existed, 7 more capitalized on that discovery and glued themselves to that entrance. Protestors also attached themselves to a pink car in front of the Ministry.
Outcome: The DA was performed alongside the larger Extinction Rebellion protests. They were successful as their demands for Britain to declare a climate emergency, and its commitment to become carbon neutral by 2050 were met. The dilemma action was performed in conjunction with many other protests, marches, and demonstrations taking place during the period that the campaign was active.
