CASE NARRATIVE

Issue and Opponent: Shortly after the Chernobyl meltdown, a concert was organized in Wackersdorf to protest the planned construction of a nuclear waste recycling facility near the city.
Dilemma Action: 120,000 people gathered at the second-largest German music festival in the country’s history. This was done in succession to the four other annual Anti-WAHnsinns concerts held previously. The concert went on despite repeated attempts by authorities to cancel it. It remained peaceful.
Outcomes: The protest/festival successfully stopped the construction of a nuclear waste recycling plant in the nearby area.
